Arizona Congressional District 1
Learn The Candidates Positions on Healthcare.
On July 10, 2008 contact was made with all of the campaigns to offer the opportunity to clarify their position on Healthcare in Congressional District 1. Information will be updated when provided by the campaigns.
The most important issue for The Osborne Group and the healthcare providers we represent is not simply whether or not a candidate supports Universal Healthcare or a single payer healthcare system; such stances are not unique. Imagine a Universal Healthcare system where every citizen is insured, you have one major problem - not enough healthcare providers to care for the patients. When we currently find ourselves with a shortage of healthcare providers the solution to the healthcare crisis is not as simple as supporting healthcare coverage for all, the next representative to Congress from our district needs to support the healthcare providers and needs to take steps to restore the traditional practice of medicine. For too long insurance companies and corporate interests have governed the practice of medicine - it is time to give control back to the healthcare providers and patients.
It is important to consider the role your next congressional representative will have in enacting true healthcare reform. Much attention is given to the Presidential Candidates positions on Healthcare, but Congress will have the final say in creating the legislation and making the changes necessary to realize the programs now being touted by Barack Obama (D) and John McCain (R). A major consideration, because of the budget deficit and current economy in America, is how the candidates propose to pay for these programs. If a candidate has provided us with a plan to pay for their proposals on Healthcare we have listed such information below, if they have not - it is blank.
Sydney Hay (R)
- Summarized from her webiste Ms. Hay supports: "...reforms [that] will transform our health care system into one that provides value and freedom of choice; that expands private health care coverage, instead of expanding government; and that puts downward pressure on health care costs, thereby reducing them."
- Supports interstate competition for health insurance plan purchasing by employers and citizens.
- Proposes medical malpractice reform and no fault insurance.
- Would change the "unfair" tax treatment of employer provided health plans vs. individuals purchasing their own.
- Supports student loan forgiveness and reimbursement to bring healthcare providers to poor or rural areas to practice.
- Expansion of the Health Savings Accounts program.
- Supports drafting legislation to protect emergency room providers and limit their malpractice liability.
- Proposes that Congress "Transform EMTALA by converting this program into one of direct assistance to the uninsured in the form of premium assistance or health care vouchers, thereby enabling them to buy private insurance coverage.
