Health Information Exchange

Phase One Status:

Introducing the North Central Arizona Health Information Exchange

The North Central Arizona Health Information Exchange, or NCAHIE, is an emerging HIE within the Medical Trade Area that includes: Camp Verde, Cottonwood, Clarkdale, Jerome, and Sedona.

Our research showed that a majority of practitioners in the area have no Practice Management or Electronic Health Record software, an aging population that has extensive healthcare needs, a single hospital system anchoring the MTA, a large portion of the local economy being based on healthcare and an active and involved local citizenry. NCAHIE was created and is intended to leverage these benefits to create a HIE that has true economic and quality of care benefits.

NCAHIE is based on these premises:

  • Healthcare services and standards should be appropriated by practitioners and patients.
  • Health Information Exchange must have measurable value and provide quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Education is a corner stone of HIE development. Education of the community as well as education of those in the medical community.
  • Health Information Exchange technology must be affordable, intuitive and provide a measurable increase of productivity.
  • HIE is in the nascent stages. Mistakes will be made. NCAHIE must strive to correct and learn from these errors.
  • NCAHIE was created and is run for the benefit of the entire community.
  • NCAHIE will operate as a coordinating body for the disparate groups required to build and maintain a functioning HIE.
  • NCAHIE will maintain transparency with trading partners and other concerned parties.
  • NCAHIE will maintain relationships with those deemed to be the best in the field of HIE.
  • NCAHIE is not meant to be a partisan organization.
  • HIE has benefits that extend beyond the immediate medical community. A key to the development of a successful HIE is the identification and utilization of these benefits.

Preliminary benefits include:

  • Increased information technology infrastructure
  • Educational opportunities
  • Workforce development opportunities
  • Public safety
  • Economic development

NCAHIE is more than a traditional Health Information Exchange.
